Motor Insurance
Under the Motor Vehicles Insurance (Third Party Risks) Ordinance, Hong Kong, all vehicles must be insured against claims for third party bodily injuries arising out of an accident involving the use of the vehicle on a road.
New India Assurance, Hong Kong Branch’s ‘Motor Insurance policy’ covers Private Cars as well as Commercial Vehicles upto 5.5 tonnage capacity only.

- The reasonable market value of the Motor Car/vehicle at the time of its loss or damage
- The insured’s estimated value of the motor car/vehicle as specified under the schedule of the policy; whichever is lesser
Subject to Policy terms and conditions, Company’s indemnity pursuant to Section II of the policy is limited to all sums wherein insured and or insured driver shall become legally liable to pay in respect of
- The death and bodily injury to any other person and or
- Damage to third party property
1. Third Party insurance: This policy indemnifies insured and or insured driver for which they become legally liable subject to policy terms and conditions:
- The death and bodily injury to any other person and or
- Damage to third party property
2. Comprehensive Policy: It is a wider policy.Comprehensive motor insurance policies include Third Party insurance, and extend cover to protect against damage to, and theft of, your own vehicle
- Third Party Body Injuries – Maximum coverage of HK$100,000,000; and
- Third Party Property Damage -Maximum coverage of HK$2,000,000;
Maximum Coverage under comprehensive policy is market value of the vehicle.
Add On Coverages:
The company provides various other add on covers as per the market practice. Such additional coverage are:
- Windscreen Damage – Excess Waiver
- ‘New for Old’ Replacement Vehicle
- Medical Expenses Cover
- Personal Accident Benefit
- No Claim Discount protector
Any vehicle owner whose vehicle is registered under his/her/company name can take the policy.
How to select the sum insured?
- The sum insured should reflect reasonable market value of the vehicle at the time of the insuring the vehicle;
- Estimated value as per Insured.
How the premium is fixed?
The premium rate to be applied on sum insured is based upon:
- The type and use of the vehicle;
- Year of purchase of the vehicle;
- Other add-on coverages incorporated under the policy;
- The amount of premium also depends on various other risk factors like Past loss experience, Deductible etc.
How to claim?
The following steps should be taken in event of a loss or damage to Vehicle insured:
- Immediate notice of any claim must be given in writing to the company;
- Immediate notice of any accident must also be given to the Police;
- In case of package policy an adjuster would be deputed to assess the loss;
- Send all the relevant documents such as claim form, copy of vehicle registration certificate, copy of driver’s license, copy of breath analyzer report, copy of driver’s statement to the police and all other such details to the insurance company;
- Take immediate steps to minimize loss;
- Assistance should also be offered to Adjusters by providing all the necessary support for assessment of loss and establishing liability.
Documents required by insurer for processing the claim:
Common Documents required under a Motor Policy Claim:
- Duly filled-in Claim Form.
- Copy of vehicle registration document.
- Insured/driver HKID.
- Insured/Driver driving License.
- Statement given to Police by Insured/Driver.
- Notice of intended Police prosecution or traffic report.
- Breath analyzer report (POL973 form).
